Notre Dame's finest basketball player of all-time, LaPhonso Ellis was chosen #5 overall in the 1992 NBA draft and jumped immediately into stardom. His rookie and sophomore seasons were brilliant, and the Nuggets were poised to join the league's elite after their miraculous 1994 playoff run. While Ellis became a Denver hero during that season, his glory would be short-lived. A major knee injury suffered before the 1994-95 season sidelined him for all but four games that season, and the rest of his career would be plagued by various injuries that limited his effectiveness. A bright star who early career brilliance could not be sustained, LaPhonso will forever be remembered as one of the men who gave Nuggets fans a brief taste of glory during an otherwise dark era.
